Last year, the most turbulent military and political processes convulsed the Middle East and Africa. The Arab Spring events of 2010-2012 only added fuel to the flame, creating an atmosphere of general instability, disillusionment and frustration in the Arab world, contributing to the growing resurgence of the armed extremist and separatist movements and groups practically throughout the entire territory of the Middle East and the greater part of the African continent. In Libya, the Arab Spring developments and the military intervention of the NATO member-states produced an effect of utter chaos and turmoil.
